ORGANISERS of the Hyndburn Business Awards will be seeking to recognise the dedication of businesswoman Evonne Harwood following her sudden death. The owner of the Pink Magpie Vintage Emporium won the Enterprising Person Award at last year’s inaugural business awards for her dedication to improving Warner Street with events and attractions. She died in April.

As the finalists have been announced this week organiser Rob Carder, from Enterprising People, said: “I’d like to pay tribute to Evonne Harwood, last year’s Enterprising Person Award winner, whose sudden and sad death has devastated all that knew her. She had entered the Pride of Hyndburn Award this year, but we couldn’t bring ourselves to open her entry form. The judging panel agreed that rather than consider her entry as part of the Pride of Hyndburn category, we should look to commemorate her life and achievements at this year’s ceremony and explore what we could do to honour her in future Hyndburn Business Awards. Evonne’s contribution to the town, and to enhancing Accrington’s potential and Warner Street in particular, will never be forgotten.”

The number of nominations doubled this year and almost twice as many deserving businesses, individuals and organisations were put forward for an award. The presentation night will be at Accrington Town Hall on Tuesday June 13 when a team from Accrington and Rossendale College will be preparing and serving a delicious two course meal. In total 16 awards will be presented on the night and judges will now meet up to determine the winner of each trophy.

Rob added: “Hyndburn has some incredible businesses and this year has been an even bigger success than last year when the town hall ballroom was packed. I would like to say thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate their favourite business and people and organisations for a Hyndburn Business Award.”

The finalists for the Stonehouse Logic Award – the beacon award presented to the most inspirational business – will be announced on the evening.
